One of the first things Joanna told me when we met was that she was a fellow William and Mary alum. It usually doesn’t take much more than that for me to decide that you’re good peoples.
Then she told me that one of the reasons she and Jimmy wanted me to photograph their big day was because I showcased a lesbian wedding on my website. And that’s when I REALLY knew that we’d get along just fine. I really do love when people love all love :).
Joanna and Jimmy tied the knot on April 8th on the lawn of the Virginia War Memorial surrounded closely by many of their loving family and friends in one of the most intimate and beautiful ceremonies I’ve seen. Joanna’s good friend from Seminary, John, knowing the couple well, discussed their beautiful relationship while imbuing a little bit of his spirited personality :). After exchanging vows, John gifted Joanna and Jimmy with a set of kitchen dish cloths which, as he so eloquently pointed out, can be used to clean up your messes, but also for so many other things – like providing a love tap when you’re cooking together, or signaling the “white flag” at the end of an argument, or used as a blindfold for the element of surprise! Once he had handed over the dish cloths, he prayed over the couple. He then asked all of the guests to raise one hand toward Jimmy and Joanna and invited all of those who wished to share specific prayers or good thoughts to do so. For the next few minutes, enveloped by their friends and family, their loved ones began to say aloud their well wishes for Jimmy and Joanna. It was such a beautiful, loving, heartfelt moment <3.
Once the happy couple made it official, everyone headed inside the War Memorial Museum for delicious food and catering from The Butler’s Pantry and fabulous dancing courtesy of Jimmy’s son, Jack!
Jimmy and Joanna, your special day was a beautiful reflection of your love for one another. Thank you SO MUCH for allowing me to capture the beginning of this next chapter of your lives together <3.
